David Martínez Madero

 

The news of the death on 21st January 2011 of Mr. David Martínez Madero, Director of Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia, Spain, at age of 47 for heart attack, has been received with deep regret by his many friends in his and other countries. His decease happened suddenly while a stopover in Milan on his way back from Singapore after attending the IAACA 2011 expert meeting on the IAACA Work Plan.

 

Mr. David Martínez Madero was designated by the Parliament of Catalonia for a non-renewable period of nine years, he took up the post as Director of Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia on 26 May 2009.

 

Mr. David Martínez Madero graduate in law from the University of Barcelona, he is a member of the Public Prosecutors Office since 1992.

 

In 1999, he was appointed member of the Public Prosecutors Department against Corruption and Organised Crime and has accumulated intensive experience in the sphere of the fight against corruption, financial crimes and organised transnational crime. For ten years, he has exercised his post as well as coordinated and executed international consultancy projects (United Nations, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, Council of Europe, European Commission) directly related to the prevention and control of corruption, institutional construction and the enhancement of social cohesion, advising on the review of judicial systems in various European and Latin American countries.

 

From 2001 to 2007, he was Pre-Adhesion Advisor of the European Union in Romania, having been awarded the highest official presidential decoration for his contribution to the improvement and strengthening of institutional capacity to fight against corruption.

 

David leaves his wife, Elisa López and his daughter, Claudia Martínez. I have conveyed our deepest condolences to his family and his colleagues on the behalf of the IAACA
