The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Brunei, with the help of the film-making know-how of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), has produced a 55-minute drama to warn the public on the dangers of corruption.
The drama, entitled Menentang Arus or roughly translated as "Against the Tide", is scheduled to be aired on RTB 2 this Saturday (July 10) at 6.50pm and a repeat will be shown on July 15, at 3.30pm.
The drama is also available in DVD, which currently can only be obtained by the public through a written request to AG, according to ACB staff.
The drama tells the tale of a successful entrepreneur and a senior government officer who fall into the lure of corruption, explained Acting RTB Director during a ceremony to "hand over" the production from RTB to ACB.
"Their actions of abusing their power for self-gain is (then) detected by AG," said Hj Idris Hj Md Ali. "In the end, they are found to be involved in corruption and their case is brought to justice".
"Hopefully with this production, the potential viewers will take heed of the ominous signs of corruption and will be able to distance themselves away from practices that can destroy the countrys future," he added.
Hj Idris remarked that it was also befitting that the drama will be shown during Isra Mikraj.
Meanwhile, Acting ACB Director Ang Swee Kiang said that education was among the bureaus main strategies in combating corruption, as underlined in its Strategic Plan 2010-2014. The production was made in accordance with this aim.
"With the number of viewers who follow the programmes shown on RTB, I am very confident that ACBs aim to raise awareness and educate the public on the dangers of corruption will be achieved, while entertaining viewers who watch this special television drama," he said.
Ang also lauded the production for showcasing local talent in acting and producing. He also commented that it could compete with similar drama productions found abroad.
Both acting directors hoped to see future collaboration on such platforms.
During the ceremony, the hand over was signified by the presentation of the drama in its DVD format from the acting RTB director to Permanent Secretary at the Prime Ministers Office Hj Omar Hj Abd Rahman, who then presented it to the acting AG director.
They also witnessed a trailer of the production. The ceremony was held at ACBs headquarters in Old Airport.
